What causes hematuria?

Most of the causes are not serious. Many people have hematuria without having any other related problems. However, because hematuria may be the result of a tumor or other serious problem, like kidney or bladder stones, infection of the bladder, inflammation of the bladder, trauma to the kidney, kidney failure, or kidney disease following strep throat, a physician should be consulted.

As blood in the urine should never be ignored, you should get an evaluation from you doctor to determine the cause of hematuria. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause.
