Hormone therapy

Hormone therapy for the treatment of ED may involve the replacement of male hormones like testosterone. This was once thought to be a useful treatment to attempt because of the importance of testosterone in maintaining normal sexual interest and function.

However, it is now thought that testosterone replacement therapy is only likely to be useful in men who actually have levels of testosterone that are too low. This can be shown through laboratory testing. Likewise, other forms of hormone therapy are only likely to be useful when given to treat actual hormone disorders, like thyroid disease. By treating the hormone disorder and improving overall health, it may be possible to prevent further problems with erections.
